Ejisu by-election: EC clarifies that contents of envelope provided to our officials were intended for lunch

The Electoral Commission of Ghana (EC) has revealed the findings of its preliminary investigation into the viral video depicting a man placing a white envelope on a table in front of officials during the Ejisu by-election.

In a statement, Ghana’s electoral governing body clarified that the contents of the envelope were intended to cover the cost of lunch for the officials.

“Our investigation revealed that the man in the video walked to their table and enquired whether they had eaten. He then placed the envelope on the table and asked them to use the contents of the envelope for their lunch, following which he walked away,” the deputy Chairman of Operations for the EC, Mr. Samuel Tettey narrated.

He mentioned that his office is currently in discussions with the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service to initiate an investigation into the matter.
