The mother of 15-year-old Ghanaian student Javits Badu Nkansah Frimpong is demanding justice following the fatal shooting of her son in the Bronx, New York.
Madam Doris Adu Gyamfi, who travelled from Ghana to the United States after the incident, said her main concern was to ensure that those responsible for her son’s death were identified and made to face the law.
Speaking after arriving in New York ahead of her son’s funeral, the grieving mother made an emotional appeal, saying: “I want justice for my son, that is all.”
She further disclosed that Javits had hoped to become a medical doctor, describing his death as a devastating loss that has robbed him of a promising future.
The teenager was shot dead on Thursday, October 29, 2026, while on his way to school in the Claremont neighbourhood of the Bronx. His killing has sparked grief and concern within Ghanaian communities in New York.
Javits was reportedly shot shortly before 9:30 a.m. near Crotona Park as he walked to DreamYard Preparatory School, where he was a Grade 10 student.
The New York Police Department said the teenager suffered gunshot wounds and was taken to St Barnabas Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
Investigators say three suspects, dressed in hooded clothing and surgical masks, were seen in the area before Javits arrived.
According to police, the teenager attempted to flee when the suspects approached, but they chased him and opened fire.
The suspects allegedly returned to collect the spent shell casings before fleeing through a nearby subway station.
Police are reviewing their movements and following up on leads to establish their identities and whereabouts as the search for those responsible continues.
