National Chairman hopeful of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Awentami Paul Afoko, has expressed confidence that the party can return to government within two years if he is elected to lead it.
He said the “elephant family” would spend only two years in opposition before regaining power, and pledged to work towards making that projection a reality.
Speaking to delegates in the Western, Central and Eastern Regions during his ongoing campaign tour, the former National Chairman stressed that party unity would be crucial to the NPP’s efforts to secure victory in the 2028 general election.
“I do not have a magic wand, but I can assure you that if we close our ranks and rally behind me to become the National Chairman, we have only two years to stay in opposition, and then power will be ours,” he told constituency executives, to rousing cheers.
Afoko’s campaign message to delegates has focused on his 3Rs Blueprint — Reunite, Rebuild and Recapture Power — which he says provides a clear roadmap for the NPP’s return to government.
He said the party cannot afford to remain focused on past internal divisions, adding that his priority as Chairman would be to unite the various factions of the NPP under one banner ahead of the 2028 general election.
“We have all the ingredients for victory. What we lack is unity. My message to every constituency, every region, is simple: set aside our differences, reunite as one family, and rebuild the structures that have made us formidable in the past,” he said.
On rebuilding the party, Afoko pledged to strengthen grassroots structures, revamp constituency and polling station organisation, and restore confidence among party foot soldiers whom he said had felt neglected in recent years.
He argued that a stronger party machinery, coupled with unity at the leadership level, would help position the NPP to recapture power in 2028.
The former Chairman’s campaign tour has taken him across several regions ahead of the party’s National Chairmanship contest, attracting constituency executives and TESCON members who have turned out to hear his vision for the party’s future.
With the National Chairmanship election scheduled for October 3, Afoko is intensifying his campaign engagements, focusing on his unity agenda and 3Rs Blueprint as he seeks to win the support of delegates ahead of the vote at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi.
