The Bank of Ghana (BoG) has flagged 20 mobile loan applications for operating without the required licence or regulatory authorisation.
In a notice issued on Wednesday, September 9, 2026, the central bank warned that the activities of the identified apps violate regulatory requirements, with potential risks to customer data privacy and consumer protection.
The Bank of Ghana has urged the public to avoid dealing with the unlicensed loan providers identified in its latest notice.
The central bank has also directed banks, Specialised Deposit-Taking Institutions (SDIs) and Payment Service Providers (PSPs) not to facilitate or process transactions for unlicensed digital credit providers.
BoG says the notice is part of efforts to clean up Ghana’s digital credit sector and protect consumers from operators offering digital lending services without the required licence or regulatory approval.
The Bank of Ghana said the operations of the affected apps breach the Directive for Digital Credit Service Providers in Ghana, which came into force in September 2025.
The central bank has urged the public to exercise caution and confirm the regulatory status of digital lenders before using their services.
