Interior Minister, Muntaka Mubarak Mohammed, has disclosed that several recruits have been dismissed from security services training institutions after being found to have submitted forged or altered WASSCE results during the recruitment process.
He said the discrepancies were uncovered after the certificates and results presented by the applicants were forwarded to the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) for verification.
The Interior Minister, Muntaka Mubarak Mohammed, has expressed concern that some individuals seeking to join Ghana’s security services are engaging in acts that violate the law.
His comments follow the revelation that several recruits were dismissed from security services training schools after submitting forged or altered WASSCE results.
The Minister had earlier disclosed that at least 10 recruits were dismissed for breaching a directive banning the use of mobile phones during training.
According to the Minister, the affected recruits had secretly kept mobile phones despite the requirement to surrender their devices upon reporting to the training institutions.
Speaking at a ceremony to commission new classroom facilities at the Asokore Mampong Roman Catholic School, Alhaji Muntaka Mubarak said recruits found to have submitted forged or doctored WASSCE results would be placed on a red list and barred from future recruitment into any of the security services.
He said management of the various security services was also considering prosecution for those found culpable.
The Minister urged prospective applicants to ensure they meet the required qualifications before applying to join the security service of their choice.
“It’s so shocking that a lot of people forged their results. I don’t know how they think that they will be employed in the Police, Prisons, Immigration, Fire Service, Narcotics Control Commission, or Armed Forces, and the certificate you present won’t be checked.
As we speak, many have been dismissed from the training because they have doctored their results slips,” he said.
