JUSAG Accuses Fair Wages CEO of Unilaterally Handling Salary Negotiations

The Judicial Service Staff Association of Ghana (JUSAG) has accused Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC) Chief Executive Officer, Dr George Smith-Graham, of making decisions unilaterally in ongoing negotiations over its demands. The association insists it must be consulted before any agreement affecting its members is reached.

JUSAG maintains that the Commission’s approach undermines the negotiations and disregards the need for consultation and consensus in resolving the dispute.

Speaking at a press briefing on Tuesday, November 3, JUSAG President Samuel Afotey Otu cautioned that the association would not accept any decisions reached without its participation.

He called on Dr Smith-Graham and the Commission to adhere to the legal provisions governing the determination of salaries and conditions of service for Judicial Service employees.

“You cannot just sit in your office and then take unilateral decisions and think they will bind on us. We are with a justice institution, and we know what the law is. So we want to tell them that the law has already been stated clearly, and they should comply with it. If not, we will still remain where we are,” he said.

The concerns come as JUSAG continues its indefinite nationwide strike, which commenced on Monday, November 2, in protest against delays in approving and implementing the 2026 salary review for Judicial Service staff.

JUSAG is calling for presidential approval of the Judicial Council’s recommendations on the salary review, alongside the payment of the revised salaries in November and outstanding arrears for the period January to October 2026.
