Manchester United head coach Michael Carrick has praised young winger Shea Lacey for his display in the club’s dramatic 3-2 comeback victory over AS Roma in Tuesday’s UEFA Champions League encounter.

Carrick commended Lacey’s versatility and readiness to take on different roles as United fought back from a two-goal deficit to secure the win.

Carrick revealed that tactical adjustments at half-time saw Matheus Cunha move into a central position, while Bryan Mbeumo shifted to the left wing to give the team better balance. Lacey also demonstrated his defensive work rate in the closing stages, tracking back to provide cover at right-back.

The United manager praised the youngster’s overall contribution, describing him as a talented player who is determined to establish himself in the first team.

“I’m delighted for Shea, we love him to bits. He’s so talented and desperate to do well,” Carrick said.

He also commended Lacey for prioritising the team’s needs and showing versatility by adapting to different roles.

“It just shows what he’s prepared to do, and to see young players take opportunities like that, there aren’t many better things, I must say,” he added.

The win brought an end to United’s nine-match winless streak in all competitions, offering Carrick’s side a much-needed lift.
