Thirteen people have been confirmed dead following a fatal road traffic accident on the Sege–Tema Highway in the Greater Accra Region involving a Ford Transit and a Toyota Hiace.
The accident occurred on Wednesday, September 2, as both vehicles were travelling along the highway towards Ada.
According to a Facebook post by the Ghana National Fire Service’s Assistant Divisional Officer, Alex King Nartey, personnel from the Sege Fire Station responded to the accident after receiving a distress call from the Sege–Tema Highway.
A total of 18 casualties were recorded. Thirteen people were confirmed dead at the scene, while five others sustained critical injuries and are currently receiving treatment at the Sege Polyclinic.
The cause of the crash is yet to be determined as investigations continue. Meanwhile, motorists are being urged to obey traffic regulations, avoid reckless overtaking, and observe speed limits to help prevent similar accidents.
